Through a series of contests, this site serves as a learning ground for both students and professionals, seeking to empower them to learn more about open source, XML and database management, as well as encourage skills-building in these areas. The contests also offer those who do not have prior knowledge of XML and database management an opportunity to learn more about these new technologies that will help increase their marketability in the IT industry.

Each participant is required to complete a Quick Quiz before proceeding to the three contest categories, which are Video Mania, Query Challenge and Programming Contest. Entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges from IBM and the local universities.

In addition to learning and honing new skills with high professional demand, participants will stand to win iPod Nanos, Nintendo Wii and other attractive prizes. Early bird prizes will also be given to those who participate early. So sign up now and get a head start to becoming an XML Superstar!

To participate in any of the contests, you are required to sign in and take a Quick Quiz. Learn XML and DB2 in a fun way that requires no prior experience. Hurry up and win T-shirts for early birds who complete the quiz with all correct answers.
Video Mania
For video lovers, this is a contest which you do not want to miss. What does IBM mean to you? How about XML and DB2? We want to know. You can tell us through a song, a skit, a screen cast, a dance, a documentary or any other way you think will win you a prize. As long as some part of your video has an element that highlights IBM, XML or DB2, you can enter this contest. The final winner at the ASEAN level will get to walk away with a Nintendo Wii!

Query Challenge
Query Challenge is a way to learn XML and query language (related to DB2) and to put the knowledge into practice. Having had a preliminary understanding of XML and DB2 through the Quick Quiz, your next challenge is to apply the knowledge to real life through writing queries to find multiple choice answers in an XML version of CIA World Factbook. Prizes will be given to winners at both the country and ASEAN level.

Programming Contest
Here's your chance to build an application that uses IBM's breakthrough technology and to show how well abreast you are with all that is happening in the exciting world of XML. Explain to the judges how to install, run and evaluate your application, as well as point out how your solution specifically takes advantage of pureXML or other XML technologies. Impress the judges with your team entry and be awarded with attractive prizes!
